Which Eurostar ticket should you book? The short answer

Book Snap if you leave within ten days, on a fixed date, with no time constraint; Standard if you book early or want to pick your train; Plus if the wider seat and the served meal are worth the price gap to you; Premier if you travel for work and are paying for flexibility and the lounge.

• Leaving in under ten days on a date that will not move: Snap, the moment a date opens.
• Booking weeks ahead: Standard at today’s fare — Snap does not exist yet for your date.
• A time matters (meeting, connection, children): Standard or Plus, never Snap.
• Working on board or travelling for your company: Plus for the space and quiet, Premier if plans may change until the last minute.
• Budget is the only criterion: Standard booked early, otherwise Snap booked late. Never Plus “for the meal”.

Snap vs Standard vs Plus vs Premier: the comparison table

Eurostar sells three classes — Standard, Plus, Premier — and a fourth ticket, Snap, which is a Standard sold cheaper in exchange for giving up the choice of train time. The table uses the conditions Eurostar publishes as of 18 September 2026; the first column stays put as you scroll on mobile.

Snap vs Standard: doing the maths

Snap beats Standard when you book within the last ten days, your date is certain and the Standard fare for that date has already climbed; Standard wins as soon as you book early, need a specific time or a way out, or find a Standard close to the Snap price.

What you buy with Snap is up to 50% off the public price of a Standard seven days before departure — the only figure Eurostar publishes. What you give up: the choice of train (a half-day slot, time confirmed 48 hours before), the free exchange and the £25 refund.

We do not publish a price survey here: fares change daily and a dated figure would be wrong a week later. The maths takes two minutes and leaves no doubt:

   On snap.eurostar.com: your route, your date, the slot that suits you. If nothing shows, the question is settled for today.

   On eurostar.com, same route, same date, every train. Write down the lowest fare and the departure time that goes with it.

   Put a price on flexibility

   The gap between the two is what you pay to choose your train and to be able to change your mind. Under £25? Standard already covers its own flexibility. Over £40? Snap.

Standard vs Plus: is Eurostar Plus worth it?

Eurostar Plus is worth it if you value an extra spacious seat and a meal served at your place; it changes nothing about flexibility, luggage or boarding, which are identical to Standard. The difference is comfort, not conditions — so the choice mostly comes down to the price gap on the day you book.

What Plus adds, according to Eurostar: “extra spacious seats”, a choice of two dishes and drinks served at your seat on London routes, wi-fi and a socket as everywhere. What it does not add: no lounge, no priority gate, no third bag, no free refund.

Worth it for: a journey where you want to work or sleep in peace, a trip for two where you treat yourselves, or simply a day when Plus is not much dearer than Standard. Not worth it for: the meal alone — a sandwich from the café costs less than the gap.

Plus vs Premier: who needs it?

Premier is for people whose plans change: free exchange and refund up to two days after departure, guaranteed boarding on any train that day, lounges in London, Paris and Brussels, priority gates, three bags and a chef-designed meal — most of the gap with Plus is there, not in the seat.

If you are paying out of your own pocket for a leisure trip, Plus is enough; if a meeting might be cancelled or moved, Premier saves you buying a second ticket. The old names Standard Premier and Business Premier have corresponded to Plus and Premier respectively since 4 November 2024.

What if Snap is sold out?

When Snap shows sold out you have three ways out: wait for a batch to reopen (it happens, with no announced time), widen the date or the slot, or fall back on a Standard at today’s fare. Snap tickets drop in small batches up to ten days before departure; here is the state of the main routes, checked every 10 minutes.

How to pay less, whichever class you pick

Four levers bring the Eurostar bill down: book as soon as sales open, compare classes on the same date rather than in the abstract, pay only for the flexibility you will use, and watch Snap in the last ten days — with an alert rather than by hand.

   Sales open 10 to 11 months ahead. The closer you get to departure, the higher the public fare — which is exactly what makes Snap interesting at the end.

   Compare classes on the same date

   The Standard / Plus gap changes from day to day. Always look at both for the same date before deciding Plus is “too expensive”.

   Pay only for useful flexibility

   Standard and Plus can be exchanged free up to an hour before and refunded minus £25; Premier only makes sense if you will actually use the post-departure exchange or the lounge.
